SALT LAKE CITY — UTA, the Utah Transit Authority, announced changes to half of its bus routes along the Wasatch Front starting today, while also launching several new bus and train services.

Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biscupski was at Salt Lake Central station to announce the changes this morning and said riders can expect buses to come every seven minutes along some major routes, like 200 South, 900 South, and 2100 South.

“You’ll be able to catch a bus to take you in and out of the city, to the east side where there’s plenty of employment opportunities, but also to the downtown area,” Biscupski said.

She also thinks the changes will help people who are looking for a job.

“If you want to work on the east side, if you want to work downtown, you have better access coming from the west side. So, there’s a big equity component here that has been desperately needed in our city, and now we finally have it,” Biscupski said.

UTA looked at changing the routes after hearing from people who said it took them three hours just to get to work.

Other changes include new bus service between Roy and Ogden, the launch of the free trolley in downtown Ogden, more bus service to Utah Valley University, and a connector between the Frontrunner train and the Lehi Tech Corridor.

Some of the projects are being paid for by the Proposition 1 transportation bond.

People are encouraged to see if their route changed by following this link.
