SALT LAKE CITY – Salt Lake police let body-camera footage and 911 calls do the talking, when two officers shot and killed a man in Sugar House.

They released both to local news media at the Public Safety Building on Wednesday.

On April 18, the girlfriend of Delorean Pikyavit, 32, called 911.

“He went downstairs, and I heard a bunch of glass break,” the frightened woman told a dispatcher. “And then he came upstairs. I said, ‘What is wrong with you?’ And he said, ‘Do you want to see somebody die?’”

“I kicked him, and then I punched him over and over and over.”

Police confronted Pikyavit outside a home at 1132 E. Princeton Ave., flashing a knife and scissors.

“Delorean! Delorian!” one officer shouted, trying to get Pikyavit to drop the blades.

“Shoot me,” Pickyavit responded.

Moments later, officers shot and killed the outstanding warrant suspect.

“There was a note located in the house, in which the suspect identified himself as a criminal, and alluded to killing police,” Salt Lake Police Capt. Lance VanDongen said.

(Warning: the following body camera video is graphic.)

He adds Pikyavit screamed at officers he wouldn’t go back to jail.

The shooting investigation continues.

Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski has ordered the release of all body-cam video from deadly police shootings within 10 days of occurrence.

We want to hear from you.
