TAYLORSVILLE – Police have a man in custody after responding to an “armed domestic situation” Monday afternoon at 4155 West and 6550 South in Taylorsville.

Lt. Brian Lohrke said the department received the call just before 4:30 and did receive a report a gun may possibly be involved.

“As we were walking up to the house our officers heard gun shots coming from the house,” Lohrke said. “They backed off, were able to safely get into a good position.”

He said responders got the house surrounded and police called a SWAT team and negotiators as well to try and get communication with two people inside the home. A man barricaded himself into the home and a woman was in there as well.

Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera said the woman came out and said the man would agree to come out as well if police could promise him some mental health help.

“We agreed to do that for him,” Rivera said. “And he came out on his own.”

Rivera added that there were no injuries in the standoff.

Police also said other people were inside the home but were able to leave before officers got to the scene. Investigators are still looking into what instigated the dispute and where the shots were fired at.
