Moab fire was human-caused; investigators seek answers

MOAB — Some residents of a popular southeastern Utah tourist town have spent a second night without homes, after a fast-moving fire destroyed 10 homes in Moab.
Investigators now say that fire was human-caused.
The Grand County Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone who saw something in the woods behind the Cinema Court Apartments to give them a call.
The fire is fully contained.
Rick Carrigan and his wife were at home when flames rushed toward their house. They had to kick through a fence to get out.
“About the time I got to the end of the sidewalk, the Sheriff’s deputy was there telling us we’ve got to go. All we did was just walk off with what we had in our hands and the dog,” Carrigan says.
Carrigan says he has been back to see what’s left of his house.
“I took a look at what we had left, it’s nothing left but just a pile smoldering. A lot of memories burned up. It’s all done now it’s time to sweep it off and start over again,” Carrigan says.
State fire officials expect to lift restrictions today for about 150 people who are still evacuated.
