OREM, Utah — Monday was the first day on the job for the new president of Utah Valley University.

Astrid Tuminez was selected to replace Matthew Holland, and she takes the reigns of the state’s largest public university as its seventh president.

She speaks several languages and has worked in several major cities around the world, most recently Singapore.

She says she is inspired by the students, faculty and staff she has met already, and looks forward to helping UVU move forward with its integrated mission.

She is one of 8 women now at the helm of colleges or universities in Utah.
