If you are a fan of scary movies and Halloween, the Salt Lake Film Society has an event that you won’t want to miss.
“I think this year we did a really good job of getting old stuff, new stuff restored stuff,” says Derek Wall, the Venue Manager for the Salt Lake Film Society.
Each year the Film Society hosts their Tower of Terror where they spend the month of October bringing everything spooky to the big screen in a pretty special venue that we have here in the area.
The Tower Theater was built back in 1927 and opened a year later and is one of the oldest still operating theaters in the valley with it’s one screen and 350 seats not only does it play host to the annual Tower of Terror screenings the Society puts on but it is also a venue for the Sundance Film Festival.
“Halloween is really our time to shine, everyone I work with is a horror nut!” Wall said on Friday’s Movie show “Our operations manager has done a great job of really setting the scene… all of the sconces in the walls have been replaced with red lights so the whole theater is just bathed in this red light!
“We’ve got Ghosts and Ghouls projected on the side of the theater and we’ve done a ton of Halloween decorations in the Lobby. “
The Tower of Terror runs throughout October and is in its final week showing a special screening of the Rocky Picture Horror Show Saturday the 27th, Sunday the 28th and on Halloween, as well as screenings of the 2009 movie Jennifer’s Body and the 1982 slasher The Slumber Party Massacre. More information can be found on the Salt Lake Film Society’s website.
