I really like this movie, now I recognize its flaws, but if you’re going from music this is a four-star movie. It is killer! – Doug Wright

It’s been said that you can never go wrong with playing a little bit of Queen on the radio in Utah, and it seems that our two resident movie buffs would agree.

“You know,” said Doug Wright, “Queen was never my favorite band, we’d be playing the hits back on KSRP and it would be like, ‘Yeah OK, it’s another Queen song, great,’ but you know, this movie hit me on every level, and every so often there’d be a song that was so unique, and so amazing, that we’d just have to play it.”

“Do you know how long this song (Bohemian Rhapsody) took to record?” asked Steve. “70 hours to compile that Bohemian Rhapsody!

Both Steve and Doug commented on the fact that if you’re going to this movie to get a definitive look at the history of the band and dig into the back story, this movie doesn’t do that especially well, but if you’re there for the music, it delivers.

“I liked it too for the music, but to me, the movie is basically a setup for the greatest hits of Queen,” says Steve Salles, “and the story in between bothered me because I knew this story, and I’d think, ‘Wait, that didn’t happen that way, why don’t they just do it the right way!’ I didn’t understand why they’d cut these corners.”

Catch the rest of the conversation, including what Doug remembers talking about in the radio stations after Bohemian Rhapsody came out, and how difficult it is for anyone to try and play these cultural icons, check out the rest of the podcast below
