BOUNTIFUL, Utah — Principal Deanne Kapetanov is sending out phone messages this week to parents of students at Mueller Park Junior High, letting them know that rumors of a threat from a student to the school are being investigated.  She says even though so far no word of any threats have materialized, her staff take threats, substantiated or not, very seriously.

“We continue to take all threats seriously and there will be an added police presence at our school tomorrow (Friday).  That being said,” she continued, “our school is safe, and we look forward to ending the week positively and quietly.”

Kapetanov reminded parents via telephone message that as always, Mueller Park Junior High practices ‘See Something, Say Something’ in case someone encounters anything out of the ordinary or concerning.

Bountiful police Lt. Dave Edwards says investigators got a tip of a threat of violence via the Safe UT app.  It was determined to be not credible.  He says another threat came into school faculty on Thursday and it too was proven not to be credible.

Edwards says despite that, there will be extra police presence on campus for the rest of the week.

Edwards says the department and the community are sensitive to the fact that Mueller Park Junior High was the site of a shooting back in December 2016,  where a 15-year-old student took two guns to the school and fired a shot into the ceiling.  No one was hurt and the teen was sentenced to juvenile detention.
