VINEYARD — The family of six-year-old Annie Gonzalez, who was killed on Tuesday when she was hit by an SUV as she rode around her neighborhood on a scooter, is thanking the community for reaching out after the kindergartner’s death.

Older sister Genesis says they’ve heard from many people who never knew Annie, who was described as very smart with lots of friends, during a news conference the family held in front of their home on Friday.

The family does not have hard feelings against the woman who hit Annie as she was backing out of her driveway.

“It was just an accident. Annie used to play everyday with all the kids around the community. I mean, we didn’t expect that, but we don’t feel angry with anybody.”

The Gonzalezes are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who moved to Utah two years ago to escape the political situation in Venezuela.

A Facebook fundraiser has already raised $25,000 to cover the cost of tomorrow’s funeral, which is expected to be attended by over 100 people.
