Heat advisory: FEMA says it’s too hot outside

WASATCH FRONT– The Federal Emergency Management Agency issued a heat advisory across the Wasatch Front including the Salt Lake and Tooele valleys.
The advisory lasts from noon on Monday, July 22nd until midnight on the 23rd where temperatures are expected to hit over 100 degrees.
FEMA advises staying indoors, wearing lightweight clothing, and drinking plenty of water. When going outside, remember to wear sunscreen!
Additionally, FEMA suggested:
- Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
- The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
- Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool, shaded location.
- Heatstroke is an emergency – call 911
The symptoms of heat stroke and heat exhaustion, according to WebMD include:
- Throbbing headache
- Dizziness and light-headedness
- Lack of sweating despite the heat
- Red, hot and dry skin
- Muscle weakness or cramps
- Nausea and vomiting
- Rapid heartbeat, which may be either strong or weak
- Rapid, shallow breathing
- Behavioral changes such as confusion, disorientation or staggering
- Seizures
- Unconsciousness
Remember to drink more water than normal during heat waves! Stay cool out there.
