Inconceivable!

That is the reaction coming from fans and stars alike after Sony Pictures Entertainment executive and longtime TV comedy producer Norman Lear said the studio had been approached by “very famous people” wanting to do a remake of the iconic 1987 film ‘The Princess Bride’.

Lear, who is now 97, was one of the producers on the original film starring Cary Elwes and Robin Wright.

The rumors of a possible remake were started after a profile on the 97-year-old was published in Variety Magazine detailing his career and his plans for the future.

In that interview, Lear said, “We have so many people coming to us saying, ‘We want to remake this show or that show.’ … Very famous people whose names I won’t use, but they want to redo ‘The Princess Bride.’”

The hint that the film could potentially be remade brought quick reaction across social media from people up in arms about it.

Westley himself also waded into the fray, saying that, “There’s a shortage of perfect movies in this world. It would be a pity to damage this one.”

Actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who married the six-fingered man Christopher Guest, said that there can only be one Princess Bride.
