PARK CITY — Park City is making a major change to parking, to hopefully cut down on parking problems during ski season and the Sundance Film Festival.
City Hall will have a series of drop-and-load zones in the Main Street core. Taxis, shuttles and ride-sharing vehicles will need the necessary permit to use those zones.
Critics say it benefits taxi and shuttle companies, because they may be better able to afford the $200 price tag of the permit rather than each individual Uber or Lyft driver.
The drop and load zones that do not require a permit are farther away.
The Park Record says it’s supposed to reduce congestion. It launches Thursday, less than a week before Christmas.
For now, authorities will focus on education, but will increase the enforcement by Presidents Day weekend.
