SALT LAKE CITY — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning that will stay in effect from 10 pm Sunday night until 10 pm Monday, and a number of Utah schools are already responding.

What to expect

KSL Meteorologist Dan Guthrie says that we can expect four to eight inches in the valleys with one to two feet expected in the mountains.

Guthrie expects that half of those snow totals will fall throughout the night on Sunday with the rest of the totals coming Monday.

The Utah Department of Transportation is expecting that this storm will impact both the morning and evening commutes.

Spokesman John Gleason encouraged Utahns to stay off the roads Monday.

“All indications are that this is a major winter storm,” Gleason told KSL.

“We’re recommending that if people have flexibility with their travel tomorrow, that they stay off the roads as much as possible.

“Our primary focus is keeping everyone safe, and just having fewer people out on the roads tomorrow during this major snowstorm, that’s going to allow us to accomplish that goal,” Gleason says.

The Utah Highway Patrol is also urging those with the ability to work from home to do so.

Governor Gary Herbert issued a late start for state employees, as well. State offices will not be open until 12 p.m.
