Liz Koto and her family have designated the sidewalk in front of their home for silly walks only, and the response hasn’t disappointed.

The Michigan family has called back to an old Monty Python sketch to give themselves and everyone else a bit of levity and a good chuckle while in quarantine.

Koto said the idea came as the family was out for a walk around the neighborhood and, after the idea was approved by the family, a sign went up in their front yard.

The sign reads, “You have now entered the Jurisdiction of the Ministry of Silly Walks. Commence Silly Walking Immediately.” And, Koto said the silly walking has been awesome.

“We had at least two or three people drive here, park their car, get out and do it,” Koto said in an interview with Detroit Free Press. “Then there is plenty of people who walk up to it, read it, and you can tell that they are like, ‘Should I do it, should I not do it?’ Then I would say more often than not, they do it.”

More than 100 silly strolls have been collected and posted to an Instagram account, now followed by more than 36,000 people. Koto said people have been enjoying seeing goofy gaits.

“There are a lot of people who are saying, ‘I’m quarantining by myself and this doesn’t make me feel alone anymore,’ or ‘I’ve been so down in the dumps and I found your page and this really brightens my day,'” Koto said. “It feels wonderful, but wow, it feels crazy, too. It’s that whole sort of feeling of it’s a small world, but oh my gosh there are so many people in it.”

Koto said more silly walk ministries have been showing up around the country and even around the world and they are highly encouraged.
