MURRAY, Utah – It’s no secret companies have taken a hit because of COVID-19. That is why a new education campaign is launching to help struggling businesses in the Murray and Midvale stay afloat.
Murray Area Economic Recovery Task Force Chair Joseph Silverzweig says their education effort will point people in the right direction if they are looking for federal loans.
“We would walk you through the application processes for the [Paycheck Protection Program] and the [Economic Injury Disaster Loan] programs,” Silverzweig says.
Businesses could also get advice navigating local COVID-19 safety regulations.
“We would talk about all of the health department issues and the limitations placed on your work…I think that it’s important to recognize that it’s one thing to open your business and to be making your customers safe. And then there’s another challenge of making your customers feel safe,” Silverzweig says.
Even though the Murray Chamber of Commerce runs the task force, the education effort is free and open to all, including non-members, gig workers, and those who work for themselves.
Silverzweig says they want to do all they can to get businesses through this tough time.
“The safety of our community comes first, but we do want to minimize that cost [of doing business now] and then to rebound when we’re ready,” Silverzweig says.
How To Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus
COVID-19 coronaviruses transmitted from person to person. It is a virus that is similar to the common cold and the flu. So, to prevent it from spreading:
- Wash hands frequently and thoroughly, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
- Don’t touch your face.
- Keep children and those with compromised immune systems away from someone who is coughing or sneezing (in this instance, at least six feet)
- If there is an outbreak near you, practice social distancing (stay at home, instead of going to the movies, sports events, or other activities.)
