PROVO, Utah — Two people died Thursday after a series of crashes on Lakeview Parkway in Provo.
Crews responded to two separate incidents closing down Lakeview Parkway today. First, a semi rolled over, and later, a head-on vehicle collision killed two people.
Two crashes, one fatal, in Provo
The rollover closed down the roadway from Industrial Parkway to State Street.
Around 2:30 p.m. crews were called to a head-on car near 600 West and Lakeview Parkway. A 31-year-old woman was traveling with a 5-year-old girl in a tan truck who is believed to have travelled into the shoulder and over corrected causing the crash, according to officers early investigation evidence.
The woman’s truck collided with a white truck traveling westbound, driven by a 75-year-old man. His truck caught fire, but a driving passerby stopped and got the fire out quick with a fire extinguisher.
Emergency responders helped those pinned inside the vehicles get out.
The 5-year-old child and 75-year-old man from opposite vehicles sustained fatal injuries in the accident. The 75-year-old man was transferred to the hospital and then confirmed deceased. The 31-year-old was treated for injuries, but the severity is unknown.
Officers are still investigating the crash.
