Man arrested after police say he shot a gun inside St. George hotel

ST. GEORGE, Utah — St. George police took a man into custody Friday after they say he shot a gun on the second floor of a hotel and fled the scene.
Police say the suspect, Sergio Availa, fired a weapon inside the La Quinta, located at 91 East 2680 South at 9 a.m. They also say other businesses in the area were notified by dispatch about the situation.
As the suspect fled the area, police say he got rid of the firearm, which was later found by police.
Witnesses assisted police in the description of the suspect and the direction he fled.
Availa was arrested on suspicion of two counts of aggravated assault; discharge of a weapon; pedestrian in the freeway; criminal mischief; weapon possession by restricted person and reckless endangerment. The aggravated assault and the criminal mischief are both third-degree felonies.
Police say there were no injuries from the incident and there is no immediate threat to the community. However, the investigation is ongoing.
