Police give all clear, after shooting, standoff in Eagle Mountain, suspect named

EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah — Officials in Eagle Mountain have given the all clear after a hectic afternoon that included a shooting, a standoff, and four schools enacting lockdown procedures.
In a tweet Monday afternoon, Eagle Mountain City reported the “ALL CLEAR.”
ALL CLEAR: Suspect is in custody and was taken without incident. Schools are now open and students are free to be picked up and Pony Express Blvd is now open to motorists. Watch for alerts from Alpine School District for further updates.

The tweet indicated that the suspect is in police custody.
Late Monday night, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as 61-year-old Mark Samuel Roberts, of Eagle Mountain. Police say he is being booked into the Utah County Jail in connection to multiple serious charges.
Mark Samuel Roberts, age 61, of Eagle Mountain, is being booked into jail on several serious charges. Those charges will include attempted homicide as well as firearms and domestic violence related charges. Once his booking is complete I will release more details.

Cannon also said that the victim in the case, 72-year-old Mark Samuel Roberts, is expected to recover from his injuries.
Schools have also reopened and parents/legal guardians may pick up students. Additionally, Eagle Mountain City reports Pony Express Blvd. is open for motorists.
Earlier Monday afternoon, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said in a tweet that authorities life-flighted one person in fair condition from a home at 4654 North Krestel Way.
At that time, one person remained in the home and was armed.

Eagle Mountain City previously used a tweet to report that the situation was a domestic incident and did not involve any of the schools placed on lock down.
Police are on the scene at a domestic incident in the vicinity of Kestrel Way. Residents are asked to avoid this area. CVHS, Mountain Trails Elementary and Eagle Valley Elementary are on Secure Mode as a precaution, but no schools are involved in the incident. Updates to follow.

Placed on lockdown were Cedar Valley High School, Frontier Middle School, Eagle Valley Elementary, and Mountain Trails Elementary.
Parents were originally unable to pick up their students. “Parents will not be allowed to pick up their student until the Utah County Sheriff lifts the “secure” order. We will let you know as soon as the “secure” order has been lifted,” the Alpine School District said in an email to parents.
