MAPLETON, Utah — A Mapleton family escaped a fire on their property thanks to some alert neighbors.

According to a press release, the Mapleton Utah Police Department was dispatched to a garage fire in the area of 700 East Maple Street. The call came in just before 3 a.m.

Neighbors called 9-1-1 after hearing explosions from the garage which is detached from the main residence by a few feet.

Neighbors ran to the home to alert and help evacuate the two occupants of the residence.

According to the statement, Mapleton Firefighters arrived on the scene within four minutes. Firefighters began an attack on the fully engulfed garage.

Furthermore, firefighters kept the fire contained to the garage and were able to protect the main living residence which sustained little to no damage.

The Utah County Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire. The garage and vehicle inside are reportedly a total loss.

Additionally, the Spanish Fork and Springville Fire Departments assisted in the effort.

The family of the occupants would like to thank Mapleton Fire for the quick response time that saved their home.
