Suspect killed after fleeing police in Saratoga Springs

LEHI, Utah — What started as a traffic stop in Lehi resulted in a fatal officer-involved shooting overnight.
According to Lehi Police Department, officers attempted a traffic stop near 1000 East Main Street but the vehicle fled. Lehi PD pursued the suspect and called on Saratoga Police Department to assist.
Officers deployed spikes and the suspect fled on foot to a nearby neighborhood. The suspect attempted to break into a home.
According to officers, the man was armed and failed to comply with orders from police to drop his weapon. The suspect was shot as he tried to enter the home.
Authorities confirmed the suspect was killed. The suspect was a white male in his fifties and reportedly had an extensive criminal history.
There was a family in the home at the time. The family is safe and no injuries were reported.
A officer-involved critical incident team is taking over the investigation.
