SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake City restaurant received national recognition, being nominated as a finalist for a James Beard award in Outstanding Hospitality.
“Manoli’s” is just one of five Utah nominees for the award, but they are the only Utah restaurant in the Outstanding Hospitality category.
The owners of the namesake restaurant are Manoli and Katrina Katsanevas who said they are extremely grateful for the recognition.
“We really wanted to be nominated for a James Beard Award for years and so it’s pretty amazing that we did get nominated,” said Minoli Katsanevas. “And so, we’re super stoked to be semi finalists.”
Minoli Katsanevas likened the experience to the Oscars for restaurants.
“We put a lot of pride in being a Greek restaurant.”
The restaurant however, is currently closed to repair flood damage. But the unfortunate circumstances did grant the owners some time to undergo renovations planned for later this year. The renovations will make some changes to the interior, as well as expand their patio to add about 20 more seats.
The Greek eatery reopens in March.
The James Beard Foundation announced the semi-finalists on Jan. 25. James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards Ceremony will be held at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in June.
