SALT LAKE CITY– Some say bullfrog tastes like chicken. The Department of Natural Resources would love for you to find out in honor of National Invasive species Awareness Week.

According to a tweet, the DNR reminds us that bullfrogs are invasive to Utah, so hunting them is ok and apparently, they are tasty!

According to a 2019 blog, most of the ponds and marshes along the Wasatch Front contain bullfrogs. Bullfrogs are predators that’ll eat almost anything, including snakes, fish, toads and mice.

The best time for hunting is evening, according to DWR employee Ja Egget. Listening will be a big clue as to whether bullfrogs are present.

The blog goes on to state, a popular method for catching bullfrogs is with a fishing pole with a hook tied about 6-to-8 inches from the floating bobber. Bait can be anything from a marshmallow to pieces of nightcrawlers.

There is no limit and no season on bullfrogs in Utah. A license is not required, and people say they taste like chicken, but chewier.

So, when it’s time to answer that age old question of what’s for dinner, maybe bullfrog is on the menu?

The DNR even provides a recipe for “Breaded Bullfrog Legs.” Bon appetite!
