Person killed in a roof avalanche near Brighton

SALT LAKE CITY — Unified Police Department confirmed a man was found deceased near Brighton Wednesday morning.
 
The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Ryan Peterson.
 
Officers were dispatched on a welfare check after the victim had not been heard from. He was believed to have gone to his cabin near Brighton Loop Rd. on Monday.
 
According to Sgt. Melody Cutler, authorities located the victim outside of the cabin buried by a roof avalanche.
 
“We believe he had attempted to clear snow from the roof and came down with the snow,” confirmed Cutler via text. “Officers were able to see a portion of his boot and an arm.”
 
Canyon officers unburied the victim who was deceased. The family is asking for privacy at this time.
