Salt Lake City Council to vote on proposed $444 million budget

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Council will vote Tuesday on a $444 million budget. The budget was proposed by Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall.
Andrew Wittenberg, a spokesman for the mayor’s office, told KSL NewsRadio that some of the issues the budget would address include affordable housing and an air quality incentive program.
The proposed budget would dedicate $10 million to affordable housing.
“We’re looking through our RDA loan program and our RDA adaptive reuse programs to be able to build more of that affordable and deeply affordable housing,” Wittenberg said.
“We’ve increased that funding 413% in the past few years. And we’re looking to continue that trajectory to keep more affordable housing coming online in the very near future.”
Along with this, Wittenberg said the $444 million budget looks to help with air quality. This would be by doing things such as putting e-bikes into the hands of residents and swapping out gas-powered lawn mowers.
