WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — The Deer Creek Reservoir is a favorite location for many outdoor lovers, and some have noticed construction at the reservoir’s aging dam.
According to the Provo River Water Users Association’s Jeff Budge, the infrastructure was put in more than 80 years ago. The project is designed to provide important upgrades.
Such upgrades are meant to keep the Provo River healthy. As well as assisting in keeping an invasive mussel species at bay.
Deer Creek Dam Updates
Budge stated that there is a concern that someone will not use proper precautions with their boat, resulting in them bringing quagga mussels into the lake.
There will be a special coating applied on the Deer Creek Reservoir dam’s intakes. Budge said the coating “will hopefully keep the quagga at bay.”
The upgraded dam will also provide the opportunity to take water from two different strata within the Deer Creek Reservoir. The water will be fed downstream into the Provo River, with intentions to keep the river healthy, said Budge.
