PAYSON, Utah — Four teens are recovering after crashing into a ravine in Payson Canyon.
The Utah County Sheriff’s Office and Payson Fire Department responded to the crash at 2:27 Friday morning on the Nebo Loop Scenic Byway.
Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said the crash occurred near a bend in the road. The car fell down the ravine and hit a tree between 100 and 200 feet down.
Cannon said speed was “almost certainly a factor in this crash.” He said they are unsure if dangerous road conditions due to weather also contributed.
Cannon said there were three 17-year-old girls and a 17-year-old boy in the vehicle. He said none of the teens injuries are life-threatening.
The girl who was driving is being treated for cuts to her head.
Another passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported by AirMed to the hospital.
The third girl was trapped in the car with a possible broken arm, and the boy had a broken lower leg.
The Utah County Sheriff’s Office said they are all lucky to be alive.
