UTAH COUNTY, Utah — Six miles of traffic is stopped on northbound I-15 between Orem and American Fork, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. A semi and a Dodge Journey have been involved in a jackknife incident.

Delays are estimated to be two hours at the longest. UHP said there is one lane open, and they are hoping to get another lane or two open soon.

Alternate roads, such as Geneva Road and State Street throughout Orem and American Fork are now overly congested.

UHP’s Cam Roden told KSL “(it) happened at about 845 northbound I-15 at mile marker 276.”

Roden said that the Dodge Journey was driving on a spare tire, when the tire began to fail, so the driver slowed down, possibly trying to move to the right.

A semi-truck pulling double trailers was behind the Dodge. When the driver of the semi saw the Dodge slowing, they tried to go around it, but clipped the back end.

The semi jackknifed the Dodge, and sand that was being hauled spilled out of the trailer. The semi’s trailers are stretched across the freeway, blocking the HOV lane as well as lanes one, two, and three, according to UHP.

No one has been reported injured in the incident.
