ST. GEORGE, Utah — Southern Utah saw heavy rains on Friday, causing rain damage to several trails.
St. George City wrote in a Facebook post that a portion of the Virgin River North Trail was damaged by heavy rains and is now closed. They noted that spots along the Santa Clara River Trail and the Middleton Wash Trail have also seen significant damage.
Officials said they are working to reopen the sections of damaged trails, but did not provide a timeline on when they would reopen.
Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are expected through the Labor Day weekend with flash flood watch in effect through Monday in some parts of Utah.
St. George officials said safety is their top priority. They urged people to “show caution along our 70 miles of paved trails in the city.”
