SALT LAKE CITY — A woman was driving down I-80 on her way to lunch Wednesday, unaware that the drivers pulling over around her believed she was a police officer.
The Salt Lake City Police Department said someone called in a driver in a black Dodge Charger with red and blue lights flashing behind them. The car was driving on south I-80 between the airport and Redwood Road.
Turns out, the woman driving the car was unaware someone had embedded red and blue lights into the car’s fog lights.
Police said the owner reached out to them herself, explaining that she had recently purchased the car and didn’t know that the lights, controlled by a smartphone app, were flashing. She’d noticed cars pulling over for her but had no explanation as to why.
The woman said a family member sent her a news article on the incident. Once she realized what had happened, she called police.
Police said the owner has removed the lights from her car.
