MILLCREEK, Utah — Christine Petty-Brown is the new Unified Police Department Millcreek Precinct chief.
The UPD made the announcement on Thursday at a Board Meeting. Petty-Brown is taking on the position after Chief Steve DeBry retired earlier this month.
DeBry is also a former Salt Lake County Councilmember. He lost his bid for a fourth term in 2022.
According to a press release, Petty-Brown has 25 years of experience in law enforcement and is the second police chief for the city. She was a patrol sergeant with the Violent Crimes and Special Victims Unit and a correctional officer.
“For the past four years she has been the lieutenant and executive officer of the Millcreek precinct and knows our community well,” Mayor Silvestrini said in a press release. “Her leadership, experience, and vision will serve our city well.”
The UPD of Greater Salt Lake serves cities in Salt Lake County. It allows communities to have more affordable police services. According to the UPD, it combines various police services, including SWAT and Forensics, so cities can share the costs.
There are seven precincts under the UPD. They include Copperton Township, Holladay City, Kearns Township, Midvale City, Magna Township, Millcreek and Southeast Communities.
