SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Royals women’s soccer team will build a new multi-million dollar training facility at the Zions Bank Real Academy in Herriman.
The announcement came just hours before the U.S. Women’s National team was set to play Columbia at the America First Field in Sandy.
Owner Ryan Smith and Head Coach Amy Rodriguez unveiled the plans today, and told reporters at a press conference that this training facility will offer an environment for their players to “unlock the next level” of their game.
“I want to provide them the greatest sport and life experience that they can achieve,” Rodriguez said. “And I think that we have that here in Salt Lake City and with this new training center.”
As well as providing an incredible experience for the team, Rodriguez said the new facility will continue to strengthen the presence of women’s sports in Utah.
“We just want every player to feel comfortable here, have everything at their fingertips so that they can perform on the field, and at the end of the day, develop great players out of Utah.”
Something new and specific to this plan will be the incorporation of in-facility childcare for any players who have children.
The team expects the new facility to be up and running by spring, 2024.
