BOUNTIFUL, Utah — One person is dead after a house fire in Bountiful on Thursday according to South Davis Fire Metro. The home was located in the area of 2300 S. and 200 West.
Deputy Fire Chief Dave Powers told KSL NewsRadio a passerby saw smoke coming from the roof of the home.
” [They] tried to go and knock on the door to see if anyone was home and tried to rouse them. They could see that the windows were blacking and could tell that there was a fire condition called 9-1-1. ”
Responders arrived on scene and made entry into the home after neighbors said there was one man who lived alone at the residence.
“The crews inside, as they’re going down the hallway, the hallway was had given way from fire. And so they got a ladder and got across that… they were going through the hallway found him deceased,” said Powers.

According to Powers, investigators believe it may have started in the basement and came up burning through the floor.
“So it had been burning for quite a while. But [it was] not a big fire. Just a lot of heavy smoke damage.
Powers said 30 firefighters responded to the house fire. Additionally there were four engines and two ambulances.
“We had assistance from Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance.” said Powers.
Powers did have a piece of advice, “This time of year, people start to heat things up and use all such things. It’s always good to get your chimneys inspected, and your furnaces and and those types of things that haven’t been running, inspected prior to starting them.”
This was the second house fire in the area this month. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
