SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced a new member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Friday.

According to the church,  President Russell M. Nelson along with the other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles ordained Elder Patrick Kearon.

In a release from the church, Elder Kearon described the call as “daunting and humbling,” adding he strives to serve the Lord to the best of his ability.

The appointment of Elder Kearon, a General Authority Seventy from Britain and Ireland, fills the vacancy left in the wake of the death of Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles M. Russell Ballard last month.

According to the press release, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles serves as special witnesses of Christ. Administrative responsibilities include overseeing the operation and development of the global church.

Elder Kearon has lived and worked in the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and the United States throughout his life. He is 62 years old.

Bonneville International Corporation, the company that owns KSL NewsRadio, is a subsidiary of Deseret Management Corporation, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
