SALT LAKE CITY — The second wave of this December’s winter weather has been dangerous for drivers on Utah roads.

Utah Highway Patrol confirmed that by 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Utah had experienced 93 crashes that day alone.

With multiple car accidents, Ben Porter with Unified Fire Authority reminds everyone to drive safely on roads even if conditions look favorable.

Parley’s Canyon car accident

A two-vehicle crash occurred on a slick road around 10:30 Saturday morning. The incident involved a pickup truck that lost control of the ramp from I-215 to Eastbound I-80 in Utah.

The individuals involved needed extrication from their vehicles. Unified Fire Authority personnel were able to remove the four people. The road was closed due to the accident. UHP Sgt. Bishop reported that all four individuals had been transported to a hospital in serious condition.

Near miss

Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Juan Branchini was able to avoid a crash while driving during Friday’s storm on Highway 89 in Layton. His dash cam footage recorded a white van sliding into his lane, but fortunately, there were no crashes.

Winter weather preparation

The Utah Highway Patrol says that if there’s snow, drive slow.

UHP also has a number of ways to prepare your car for the season. Things like topping off fluids, packing your emergency bag for winter related emergencies, and having good tires can all potentially prevent and help in the event of an accident.
