Utah weather: more snow, potential squalls expected on Wednesday

Jan 10, 2024, 8:02 AM | Updated: 5:32 pm

SALT LAKE CITY — Wednesday is the second day of a five-day stretch where snow is in the Utah weather forecast.

On Tuesday, Northern Utah was hit with snow and snow squalls during the evening commute. The conditions had a big impact on the roads. Wednesday could look very much like round two.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Hayden Mahan told KSL NewsRadio that the storm will likely cross the Utah/Idaho border around 3 p.m. He said the Wasatch Front would likely see snow falling around 5 p.m.

Additionally, Mahan said that winds likely won’t be as strong as they were during Tuesday’s snow squalls, but another snow squall warning for Wednesday is still within the realm of possibility.

Drivers are urged to avoid the roads while this storm impacts the Wasatch Front, if at all possible.

KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson said that Wednesday’s storm will likely only leave a trace to two inches of snow on the valley floors, and six inches to a foot in the mountains.

Johnson tweeted that the cold front bringing the snow to Utah will likely impact Logan as early as 2 p.m. The cold front then moves south through Wednesday night. It will make its way through the Beehive State progressively until it reaches St. George between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Thursday.

Stay with KSL Newsradio for updates on the storm and traffic conditions.
