Two Utah police departments honored with NASRO awards

PHOENIX — The St. George and Orem police departments are being honored for their school resource officers by the National Association of School Resource Officers, or NASRO.
Specifically, they’ve received the “Model SRO Agency Awards.” According to a NASRO press release, the police departments earned the awards for demonstrating “innovative approaches” to school policing.
According to NASRO’s standards School resource officers serve in three main roles: mentor, guest lecturer and law enforcement officer on a school campus.
NASRO will present the awards to the departments during their national school safety conference in Phoenix on July 15.
About the organization
NASRO is a non-profit organization, founded in 1991 and based in Hoover, Alabama. Its purpose, according to their website, is to prevent school violence.
They provide programs all over the world, helping officers learn how to create safe learning environments.
There are over 5,000 members internationally.
“[We] take great pride in being the first and most recognized organization for law enforcement officers assigned to our school communities,” NASRO said on their website.
