MIDVALE, Utah — Federal Marshalls have arrested a fugitive after a standoff at a Midvale home. No one was injured during the confrontation.
On Wednesday, police blocked off an area in Midvale as a SWAT team prepared to engage a wanted fugitive inside a home. Several nearby homes and businesses were evacuated.
Federal Marshalls came to arrest the fugitive at around 2 p.m. After several hours, a man emerged from the home and was arrested at around 6:30 p.m.
The fugitive is wanted via federal warrant and police asked the public to avoid the area near 74th south main street during the standoff. With the arrest complete, evacuated residents can now return home.
Sgt. Aymee Race with the Unified Police Department says they were called into the area to assist.
“We’ve blocked the roads,” Race said during the standoff. “We’ve also done evacuations for people in the area, just due to some of the precautions and the situations that they are aware of we have opted to keep the public safe and just back everyone up as far as possible for their safety.”
Race said this was a serious situation, but with the police presence in the area, they feel like they have things under control.
“We have one individual in custody that was apprehended at this incident,” Race said. “And no one was injured on site.”
