Speirs wildfire burning near Flaming Gorge, caused by lightning

DAGGETT COUNTY , Utah — Officials on Sunday confirmed a wildfire, named the Speirs wildfire, is burning near Flaming Gorge Reservoir.
According to an Ashley National Forest press release, a lightning strike ignited the Speirs wildfire Saturday night.
Smokejumpers arrived as it began, and have been constructing a fire line near the fire, the press release said.
The fire remained active overnight.
It’s located east of Cart Creek drainage and east of Highway 191.
The press release said thunderstorms predicted for the area may increase the size of the fire.
There are no evacuations or campground closures, however “visitors and residents in the area are encouraged to remain observant as the fire situation.. may change quickly,” the press release said.
The fire is 0% contained as of Sunday afternoon.
