SALT LAKE CITY — Democratic nominee Nathaniel Woodward will soon know who his Republican opponent will be for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District race.
Republican Colby Jenkins requested a recount in his race against Rep. Celeste Maloy, who won the Republican nomination by 214 votes.
Earlier this month, Woodward said he believes Maloy will beat Jenkins and he admires her commitment to Utahns. However, Woodward admitted he doesn’t know much about Jenkins beyond his military service.
“Based on what I do know from a few of his platforms, I am a little more concerned than I would be with Celeste, you know his policies going into office versus mine because I think there is quite a bit of a divide on issues,” said Woodward.
While Woodward believes an upset is possible, he thinks Maloy will still emerge as the victor.
“People don’t have to be scared about who gets elected. Win lose or draw — they can at least go forward knowing that they’ve got two folks who care about them and aren’t going to necessarily get caught up in the current narrative.”
Utah Democratic Party Central Committee named Woodward the Democratic nominee for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District in May. He won through several rounds of ranked-choice voting.
