SALT LAKE CITY— Organizers of this year’s Utah Area YSA Conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are trying to break two world records this weekend.
Organizers are making official attempts to break the Guinness World Record for ‘The Largest Speed Dating Event’ and ‘ The Most Contributions to a Greeting Card.”
The record for the largest speed dating event is 964. The current record for the most greeting card contributions is 20,482.
Carly Clark, an associate producer on the conference production team, told KSL NewsRadio they are, “pretty confident,” they can break both, given the thousands of participants they had in last year’s event, where she said the idea first came up.
For the greeting card attempt, Clark said they’ve put together a giant birthday card for Russell M. Nelson, President of The Church, who’s turning 100 on September 9.
Clark said, while they only need 20,483 contributions to his birthday card to break that record, they hope to have 100,000 contributions to celebrate him turning 100.
“It’s really impactful to know all these people—care about him (President Nelson), and support him and love him,” Clark told KSL NewsRadio.
Clark said people can contribute to the birthday card through Saturday, August 3 at 8 p.m. in-person or online.
“In a world that I’m sure is so tiring and exhausting when you’re nearly 100—to receive that support. I can’t imagine what it would feel like,” Clark said.
The attempt at the speed dating world record happens Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
The conference hosts day-long festivities both Friday and Saturday in downtown Salt Lake City.
