SALT LAKE CITY — Search and rescue efforts are underway at Willard Bay on Sunday morning after a 50-year-old man went missing in the water Saturday night.
Sgt. James Morgan with Utah State Parks said the man was boating with three family members when he went missing while swimming off the boat around 9 p.m.
Morgan said the family members the man was with attempted to rescue the man but was unsuccessful.
Search and rescue efforts began after calls were made reporting the man’s disappearance. Morgan said those efforts went through the night and into early morning on Sunday.
“We’re starting again this morning after our efforts last night,” Morgan said. “We’re just getting back out with the additional resources that are out here and hope to have more success this morning.”
According to Morgan, a storm that came in on Saturday night was a contributing factor to the man’s disappearance. The storm also caused difficulty with search efforts, by Sunday morning there was only a light breeze, and the weather is currently cooperating with responders.
Morgan said Weber County and Box Elder County search and rescue crews helped in the search. Utah State Parks, an ROV team and the Department of Public Safety were also a part of the search.
Search and rescue efforts are focusing on the south end of the bay. According to Morgan, the south marina is closed to launching boats at this time.
