VINEYARD, Utah — Several people went to the hospital following an overnight carbon monoxide leak in Vineyard. Approximately 10 people were inside the home at the time of the CO leak.
Sergeant Austin Edwards with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said officers responded to a CO leak at a home near 330 North. The call came in at around 1 a.m.
Six people were transported to an area hospital. Two were unconscious and in critical condition.
“[There was] a man on the floor who was unconscious but he was breathing, and there was a woman in the backseat in the car who was unconscious and not breathing,” Sergeant Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sherriff’s Office said. They initiated CPR on the unconscious woman.
“We believe that the carbon monoxide source was from the car that was running in the garage and not from a faulty appliance at the home,” he said.
Sergeant Edwards said a good rule of thumb is to change the batteries in your CO detector every six months.
