Santaquin brush fire starts from unattended campfire

SANTAQUIN, Utah — Today the Santaquin Fire Department responded to a brush fire on the north side of the Santaquin reservoir.
The fire was originally reported by a nearby homeowner and was caused by an unattended campfire that had been left burning, according to a Santaquin Fire Department Facebook post.
The campfire was 30 feet away from the tall dry grass, firefighters said winds had carried embers into the grass.
Currently all outdoor fires that are not on designed campgrounds or on personal property are banned.
Firefighters said people caught will receive a citation and will be expected to cover costs associated with fire suppression efforts.
The Santaquin Fire Department asks to please don’t leave fires unattended.
