SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints plans to mark the 100th birthday of President Russell M. Nelson with a worldwide broadcast.
The broadcast will focus on an invitation President Nelson made back in June for his 100th birthday.
Recalling the story Jesus tells in the Bible of leaving the ninety and nine to seek the one who is lost, President Nelson urged members to reach out to the one.
President Nelson made a social media post about his 100th birthday and invited members to prayerfully ask, “Who do you know who may be discouraged? Who might you need to reconcile with or ask for forgiveness? Has one name been on your mind lately, though you haven’t quite known why?”
He encouraged members to share their own stories on social media as they followed his advice.
Belen Perez, a young Latter-day Saint from Chile, said she’s happy to join in the celebration by working with newly baptized members of the church.
“That’s amazing. I don’t know any other man that has almost 100 years and can do that many things,” said Perez.
The broadcast begins at 4 p.m. Monday Sept. 9. Church’s YouTube channel will have the live broadcast, translated into 18 different languages.
