SALT LAKE CITY — Residents of Cottonwood Heights will vote in November on a $25 to $30 million bond to fund a new town center. This new community development is called “The Heights.”
Cottonwood Heights Mayor Mike Weichers said the town center would offer restaurants, retail shops, and a community gathering place.
The 20-year bond would raise property taxes in the city an average of $9 to $10 a month.
Last year, the city purchased the property formerly known as the Hillside Plaza Shopping Center at 2300 E. Fort Union Blvd. Now it is looking to create public-private partnerships that will bring in restaurants and stores, and create a space to host community events.
Mayor Weichers said the project would give the city more of an identity.
“We want to create mountain views and places for people to come dine, shop, and spend time together,” he said.
Mayor Weichers said he envisions food trucks on Thursdays, a farmers market on Saturday mornings, and an ice rink in the winter.
