SALT LAKE CITY — This evening, police evacuated guests from all 13 floors on the north side of the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel due to a suspicious luggage found on the ground floor of the hotel.
The rest of the guests in the building were told to shelter in place.
Brent Weisberg of the Salt Lake City Police Department told KSL that a hotel employee called in the luggage around 3 p.m. today.
Security footage showed a man placing a luggage outside of the hotel and manipulating it in a suspicious way before running away.
The hazardous devices unit investigated the luggage, which had only personal belongings in it.
Officials gave the all clear around 7 p.m. after determining there was no current danger for the public.
Police have reopened West Temple.
After examining the object, using x-ray technology, we have determined there is no public safety threat.
We are starting to reopen West Temple.
Evacuees will begin returning to the hotel with normal operations resuming shortly. #SLC #SLCPD #SaltLakeCity pic.twitter.com/RoM92sOwnA
