Expect bad air quality in northern and central Utah this Labor Day weekend

SALT LAKE CITY — Unhealthy air quality is expected in northern and central Utah for part of Labor Day weekend.
Already, air quality is hazy and unhealthy for all groups in areas up north near Logan and Brigham City because of smoke from the wildfire in Idaho.
KSL meteorologist Matt Johnson said those hazy skies are going to be the worst up north.
“We have seen the wildfire smoke really move in at the north tip of the state. Southeast Idaho into Cache Valley and Box Elder Counties, we’ve seen that air quality drop off into the orange and red” Johnson said.
Going south into the Salt Lake and Utah County area, there’s more moderate and even some good air quality. However, Johnson said that won’t last for long.
“Utah Valley has stayed in the green. That will change this afternoon as we continue to see this smoke pour in from the north.”
Johnson said unhealthy air quality will be sticking around through Saturday and possibly into Sunday, before clearing out as a potential thunderstorm moves in.
