Protect your car from theft
Following the Lamborghini theft, police reminded the public to never leave their keys in their unattended vehicle. Additionally, if you leave your vehicle, you should lock it.
Consumer Reports also recommended that you park in a well-lit and busy area. Additionally, secure any valuables out of sight, or take them with you to discourage theft.
If you drive an older vehicle that doesn’t have an alarm system, Consumer Reports recommends having one installed. Visible steering wheel locks also serve as a deterrent to thieves.
Additionally, Allstate said you should not store a spare key on your vehicle. While the spare might be useful in the event you get locked out, thieves know where they’re likely to be hidden.
