SALT LAKE CITY — Utahns are known for putting a lot of effort into their Halloween decorations. A study by Lombardo Homes put the Beehive State at the top of the list of states that decorate the most for Halloween.
One Utah resident, Meg, told KSL NewsRadio that pumpkins are her go-to for her Halloween display.
“We grow pumpkins, so that’s my display outside. I just bring pumpkins from the garden, and my husband grows all kinds, so probably got 30 pumpkins on my front steps.”
Meg said she keeps her other decorations from year to year, so she doesn’t spend a lot.
“I’d buy dry ice for my witch’s cauldron, and that’s about it. And as far as food, my Halloween party this year probably cost me $50 or so.”
April, another Utah resident, said she’ll be out on her front porch for the evening, waiting for kids to stop by for their annual door-to-door quest for the best Halloween treats.
“We have a fire pit that’s fueled by propane, so I make sure that that’s illuminated up on our front porch,” said April. “And we have two or three comfortable chairs, and we all sit out there.”
She said as it starts to get darker, the kids and their parents are intrigued by the fire, so it keeps a steady stream of people coming to their door.
What about the teenagers?
“I like when the older kids come a little later,” said Meg. “I don’t mind giving them the rest of the candy that I don’t want to keep.”
