SALT LAKE CITY — A man was killed on Tuesday morning in a car crash that briefly shut down I-15.
Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cameron Roden said the man was driving north on I-15 near 200 South. They believe his Ford pickup hit a patch of black ice and lost control at around 6 a.m.
“It spun into the median where the vehicle rolled multiple times. As that vehicle rolled it ejected the driver,” said Lt. Roden.
The driver was a 26-year-old man. He ended up in the southbound lanes and died at the scene. No other vehicles or people were involved.
🚨Closure – SB I-15 closed at MP 307 (600 S) due to a crash. Use I-80 as an alternate.

As far as they can tell, Lt. Roden said it didn’t look like the driver was wearing a seatbelt.
Dangerous time of year
Lt. Roden said now’s the time of year for drivers to be extra careful on the roads. That’s the case whether it’s a big snow day or not.
“It’s something … to be aware of and adjust our driving habits. We need to slow down ’cause we need to be able to maintain control if we hit those pockets of black ice.”
